Large painted fabric

This looks like it might be a scene from history or a famous story, but I don't know specifically what that would be. It's an old painting on what I would call black muslin, and quite large — 54 inches by about 34 inches. The edges are irregular as if it were cut from a frame. I'm thinking it might be fraternal art. If someone has some insight into its origins, please chime in.

  1. This looks like the story of King Saul from the Bible. The King would go crazy and no one was able to soothe him until David, a shepherd boy, was called in to play his harp. David continued to come and play his harp when Saul had his fits, even after Saul hated David and tried to kill him, because David had killed the giant, Goliath, and as a result, had become even more popular with the people than Saul was.
