Sculpture in La Boca

La Boca is a barrio in Buenos Aires known for its vivid buildings and tango demonstrations. The artist Benito Quinquela Martin lived in La Boca and his former home is now the Museo de Bellas Artes de La Boca. Martin, who died in 1977, became well known for his paintings of the La Boca port. I was taken with La Boca's outdoor sculpture.

  1. What do you make of the microphone in that first picture? (I'd welcome your commentary on any other aspect of that installation as well.)

  2. Maybe the mike is there because that statue is a rallying point for revolutionary thinkers emboldened after a few (or more than a few) cervezas. The props fit the neighborhood, which includes some working artists, some of whom, I'm sure, love the absurd.
