The egg man and family

Mother holds "East of Suez," a once popular book of short stories set in British-ruled India by Alice Perrin. In "East of Suez," first published in 1901, Perrin describes "illicit love and betrayal against a beautifully-drawn backdrop of the mystical east, interweaving the supernatural with exquisite details of her characters' lives," according to the website Catherine Pope – Victorian Geek. Perrin was born in India in 1867 and lived there for 16 years. She died in Switzerland in 1934. As for the "eggs," on closer inspection they appear to be ... small tomatoes?
